The Nigeria Governors’ Forum and the Nigeria Health commissioners’ Forum in Nigeria are partnering to host the first collaborative event which will focus on Primary Health Care financing.
This was made known by the NHCF chairperson Oyebanji Filani, who is the Commissioner for Health and Human Service of Ekiti State.
Filani stated that the maiden event would deliver on approaches to financing PHC in states, identify common challenges and policy responses, and develop a shared understanding of the way forward for financing PHC comprehensively and sustainably.
“The event is now oversubscribed, which shows the importance the ecosystem places on this type of activity. We are grateful to all our partners and everyone that has registered, “he added.
The commissioner pointed out that high-performing health systems recognize the importance of having an effective PHC service as a key driver of achieving universal health coverage UHC and strengthening PHC requires adequate financing and service delivery.
He further stated that although Nigeria has seen marked improvements in the service delivery of primary health care, increasing financing and improving current financing arrangements can catalyze the goal of achieving UHC by 2030.
The event will be held in Abuja as a mixed event with in-person and virtual participation on the 5th and 6th of October, 2022.

The Primary Health Care financing forum will attract participants from the public sector, organized private sector, development partners, academia, Civil Society Organizations, and the media which is the last mile of Health Services delivery that relies on the Primary Health Care structures across Nigeria, to deliver individual based care and essential public health functions to all.
