Northern govs urged to fight maternal, child mortality

The 19 northern governors have been advised to adopt the Community Health Information Management System (CHIMS) introduced by Plan International Nigeria to reduce maternal and child mortality among vulnerable women in their states.
The Head of Health Programme of the Plan International Nigeria, Dr Kabiru Atta, made the call yesterday during his presentation at the 61st National Council on Health Meeting currently going on in Kano State.

Dr Atta said the organization is supporting the federal and state governments as well as communities in advancing children’s rights and quality for girls in the health sub-sector.
He said, “Plan International Nigeria is partnering with federal ministry of health, Bauchi and Sokoto states supporting them to achieve advanced health rights for boys and girls especially the marginalized and vulnerable ones.”
Dr Atta said the Plan International Nigeria would soon expand its operation to cover the whole country, lamenting that lack of accurate health data at the community level was affecting the country’s efforts in achieving universal health coverage for all Nigerians.
