Borno employs 60 doctors, 750 midwifes

The Borno State government yesterday said it has employed 60 medical doctors and 750 midwives to ease health challenges and humanitarian crisis.
Speaking at a Physicians Week organized by the Borno chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in the University of Maiduguri, the Borno State Deputy Governor Usman Durkwa said the state government equally procured health equipment.

“The state government has procured 40 new ambulances and refurbished existing ones for distribution to hospitals and clinics across the state. In our effort to boost manpower in the health sector, we employed 60 medical doctors, 750 nurses and midwives and sponsored the training of 60 female medical students in Sudan,” he said, adding that health equipment the government had procured which had started arriving would be distributed to communities “as our people are now returning to their various communities.”
The guest speaker Dr. Manpa Aliyu of Department of Public Administration University of Maiduguri, said Nigeria needed prudent leaders to get it out of recession.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman of Borno NMA, Dr. Babashehu Mohammed urged the federal government to honor the health workers who rendered service’s to save lives in years of insurgency.
