As the country begins phased opening of the economy amid the Coronavirus pandemic, the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) has urged state governments to take cognizance of the possibility of a second wave of COVID-19 infection and should start preparing preventive measures.
This is part of resolutions contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the 14th teleconference meeting of the Forum held on Wednesday, August 5 2020, and signed by the chairman Dr. John Kayode Fayemi.
Fayemi also disclosed that the recent attack on the convoy of the Borno State governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, and the rapidly degenerating state of security across the country was discussed, adding that the NEC Ad-Hoc Committee on Security and Policing met on Tuesday August 4 2020 with the heads of the nation’s security agencies to discuss and review the security challenges in the country.
He said the resolutions reached would be presented to President Muhammad Buhari shortly.
According to the communiqué, which was made available to newsmen Thursday morning by Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo, Head, Media and Public Affairs, the NGF Secretariat, the governors also reached a number of resolutions including that all COVID-19 Task Forces in the various states would work closely with their Palliatives Implementation Committees to target the most vulnerable population in society for the distribution of the CACOVID palliatives, particularly in local governments that have been identified as epicenters.
