Monday Okpebholo (born 29 August 1970) is a Nigerian businessman and politician currently serving as the governor of Edo State, a position he assumed on 12 November 2024. Previously, he was the senator representing the Edo Central senatorial district from 2023 to 2024.
Early Life and Education
Okpebholo was born in Udomi-Uwessan, Irrua, Edo State. He attended Udomi Community Primary School and Ujabhole Community Secondary School in Uwesan, Irrua, Esan Central LGA. He completed his secondary education in Jos, Plateau State. He later earned a degree in Business Administration and a Master’s degree in Policy and Leadership Studies from the University of Abuja.
Political Career
In 2023, Okpebholo ran for the Senate seat representing Edo Central under the All Progressives Congress (APC) and was elected on 25 February. He was inaugurated into the 10th National Assembly of Nigeria as a senator on 13 June 2023. In February 2024, Okpebholo won the APC gubernatorial primary election for Edo State.
During his gubernatorial campaign, he received an endorsement from Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie, who encouraged voters to support him, citing issues with essential services in the state. Okpebholo was declared the winner of the 2024 Edo State gubernatorial election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
