The Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) has promised to facilitate the development of investment plans for state Primary Health Care Boards.
The governors, in a communiqué issued after their meeting yesterday in Abuja and signed by the chairman of the forum, Governor Abdul’aziz Yari Abubakar, also promised to facilitate the development of minimum service package.
They were earlier briefed by the NGF Secretariat about the Primary Health Care Under One Roof (PHCUOR) programme and polio.
Governor Yari said some concerns were raised about state governments taking over the function of local governments through the PHCUOR programme and that discussions are ongoing to clarify the debate.
He said governors had made agreements with the Federal Government to channel large portions of the London and Paris Club funds towards the payment of workers’ salaries and to ensure that the funds were utilized according to the agreement.
The governor said that the national president of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) was invited to give detail on how states have performed about this and that there were deliberations on how those owing arrears could overcome it.
