The United States Agency for International Development, the Centre for Disease Control in Nigeria and the Department of Defence have visited the Nigeria Governors’ Forum to seek the buy-in of the 36 governors of the country towards the abolition of user fees by all HIV positive persons in the country.
Abdulrazaque Barkindo, Head, Media and Public Affairs, NGF Secretariat, said in a statement yesterday, quoted the Director-General of the NGF, Asishana Bayo Okauru, who received the group, as saying that the need to secure this quantum leap in the HIV epidemic control could come at a better time than now, promising to facilitate their meeting with Governors as soon as practicable.
The group, currently working on the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, is seeking political relevance and visibility in the area of HIV prevention so that Rapid Test Kits would be available in a more sustainable manner for the epidemic to reasonably reduce in the country.
