Ekiti State, FG Sign MOU to Convert State Specialist Hospital to Federal Medical Centre
In a groundbreaking move to expand access to quality healthcare in Ekiti, the Federal Government and Ekiti State Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to upgrade Ikole Ekiti Specialist Hospital into a Federal Medical Centre (FMC).
At the MoU signing, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Tunji Alausa, emphasized the Federal Government’s commitment to providing quality healthcare for all Nigerians, regardless of location.
He noted that the FMC would offer comprehensive medical services, training, and research opportunities, thereby bridging healthcare gaps, attracting skilled medical professionals, and decentralizing healthcare to make it accessible to remote communities.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji expressed gratitude to the federal government for approving the FMC, noting its potential to offer hope to patients with complex health conditions beyond what secondary healthcare facilities can handle and provide a healthier future for many citizens.
He also emphasized the economic benefits, predicting job creation and stimulation of local economies through supporting sectors. The event was graced by notable State functionaries, including the Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Oyebanji Filani, members of Ekiti State House of Assembly, local government chairmen, amongst others.
