The Jigawa State Government has concluded arrangements to replace the oral administration of polio vaccine with injection.
The Executive Secretary of the state’s Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Kabir Ibrahim, disclosed this yesterday when he received the members of Rotory Club.
He said the state would start using hypodermic needle for vaccination exercise next month.
He said the introduction of injection became necessary it was more effective and safer.
“Jigawa state has clocked six years as polio free state. No single case of the disease has been discovered since 2012.
The introduction of injection vaccine in November is considered more effective, safer and last longer.
It is a strategy introduced to strengthen polio eradication campaign in the state.
“We have conducted six rounds of polio vaccination exercises this year. In each round, 1.6 to 1.7 million children had been immunized across the 27 local government areas of the state.
We have mobilized over 173 districts heads for sustainable campaign against the polio virus.”
