Alh. Muhammad Bashar, the Emir of Gwandu and Chairman of Kebbi State Council of Chiefs, has called on parents to ensure their children were immunized in the current polio campaign in the state.The traditional ruler made the call during the Immunisation Plus Days Flag Off Ceremony (IPD) ceremony in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday.
He said unless parents bring out their children for polio immunization, the society stood the risk of resurgence of the virus.
“All hands must be on deck to maintain and consolidate on gains recorded to completely wipe out polio in the country.‘

Kaduna, Kano governments plan to generate electricity from solid waste
Kano and Kaduna State Governments have concluded plans to generate electricity from solid waste. Environmental officials in the two states gave the indication in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). Malam Ahmed Salihu, Director of Environment, Kaduna State Ministry for Environment, said that plans to generate electricity from domestic waste had gone far.According to him, the plan is to transform waste into huge employment opportunities.“We have already entered into discussion with the Federal Ministry of Environment and had shown interest to partner with us to make the project a reality.“The waste generation has become a major challenge to the state and we need to be taken advantage of the situation.
Jigawa solar power plant to generate 80 megawatts
A Norwegian company, Novia Scotia Power Development Limited, on Monday said the proposed solar power plant in Dutse, Jigawa, would generate 80 megawatts of electricity when completed.
The company’s Managing Director, Mr. Amit Modi, disclosed this while speaking with newsmen shortly after paying a courtesy call on the State Governor, Alhaji Muhammad Badaru, in Dutse.
Modi assured that the project would be completed and handed over in 2018.He said that the 150 million dollars project would be transmitted to the national grid when completed.
He said that the company had already signed an agreement with the Federal Government to purchase the power and sell to companies.He promised the host community that the company would employ its sons and daughters, when the project was completed and commenced operation.Advertisement Modi said the company had already started paying compensation to owners of the land acquired for siting project. Earlier, Gov. Badaru said that the project would attract a lot of investments to the state. Badaru said that no industry could function without stable power supply; hence, the project would facilitate his effort to key in the state among industrialised states in the federation. He appealed to the company to honour its agreement and ensure that the project was completed at the agreed time in 2018.The governor added that the project was part of his strategy to woo investment to the state and pledged the government’s support to ensure speedy completion of the project.

Top government officials at the federal and states level, as well as other stakeholders in the economy will examine options available to the government to improve its revenue streams especially in a period of low earnings from crude oil at the National Council on Finance and Economic Development (NACOFED) 2016 conference, which opens in Abeokuta, Ogun State on Tuesday.The conference, which is being hosted by the Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, has been themed: Enhancing Revenue Generation and Obtaining Best Value for Money in Expenditure.The Federal Ministry of Finance, in a statement yesterday, said the event will attract a diverse group of participants including Ministers, Governors, Commissioners of Finance and Budget from the 36 states of the Federation, as well as captains of industry from the private sector.
Jigawa to build 1,330 houses
Managing Director of Jigawa Saving and Loans, Babangida Umar Gantsa, said at the weekend that plans for the construction of 1,330 housing units by Jigawa State government had reached advanced stage.The Managing Director, while fielding questions from newsmen in Dutse said, they had inspected sites for the project in each of the 27 local government councils and that as soon as all other formalities were concluded, construction work would commence.He said the state government plans to build 1,080 housing units of two bedrooms in each of the local government areas as well as another set of 50 units of three bedrooms at headquarters of the five emirates. He said the project would be executed in two phases.
