COVID-19 Protocols : Kano Re-Strategises For Optimal Compliance With Face Mask

To further consolidate the victory over COVID-19 pandemic, by the Kano state, governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje evolves another strategy for members of the public to optimally observe wearing of face mask, among other protocols.

"Yes we are winning the fight against COVID-19 pandemic in the state, as we are always witnessing decline in the number of positive cases. But we still have our major challenge, which is wearing of face mask," he lamented.

He made this known during a relaunch of face mask distribution targeted at transportation associations/groups and students bodies, at Government House, Sunday, assuring that the new strategies would pave way for effective use of face mask in the state.

As hundreds of thousands face masks were distributed to the leadership of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), Students bodies among other groups, governor Ganduje reiterated that, "Though we are winning the war against the pandemic, but we must make sure that all protocols are observed."

From the start of the official distribution of the face masks by the state governor, to this distribution exercise, over 4 million face masks were distributed by the state to many categories of people.

He called on road transport owners and transporters to make sure that they always obey the wearing of face mask order. Adding that, if a passenger fails to wear a face mask, the operator of that particular means of transport would be faulted for that failure.

Ganduje listed all the security operatives in the state, reminding that they are incorporated to see to the optimal use of face mask in the state.

"The way we are launching this distribution of face mask here within Kano Emirate, the same event will happen in all other 4 Emirates of the state. Because it is pertinent to know that our traditional institution is very vital in creating awareness to the public on the importance of this and other protocols," says Ganduje.

Stressing that, though the positive cases are seriously dropping down, "...but we should not relent in our effort. We must stand firm and see that we isolate the pandemic, not the other way round."

In his remarks the Deputy Governor, who is also the Chairman of the State Task Force on COVID-19, Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, commended the governor for providing effective and efficient leadership in responding to the pandemic, will all seriousness and commitment.

"It is pertinent to appreciate His Excellency, the Governor, for effectively and efficiently driving the response against COVID-19 pandemic in the state. His quality leadership gives way for the feats we achieve in Allah's Blessing," Gawuna appreciated.

For the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, "People must comply with the protocols so that the feats achieved could be sustained. We directed our District Heads, Village Heads, Ward Heads, Imams and all other community leaders to stand firm and help have a safer society."

Adding that, "We are always appreciative of His Excellency's commitment and dedication to this fight against COVID-19 pandemic, that is why we are getting all the necessary encouragement and zeal to fight the pandemic ceaselessly."
