The role of a library can’t be taken for granted. A library is an essential and sacred institution that contains periodicals and books. This information is accessed to inform and enlighten others.
At the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Naomi O Tietie has built the library from the ground up creating a space for records, papers, and publications that showcase the history of the Governors, from present to past, the achievements and activities of the forum.
In addition to building the library, a physical space where individuals can locate many records, she also has an E-library where individuals from around the globe can access files and information about the secretariat digitally.
Due to her dedication and efforts throughout her career, Naomi was nominated and recently inducted as the Chief Data Officer Ambassador from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
In this interview, she discusses her recent achievement and her role as the Librarian for Nigeria Governors’ Forum.

I was inducted into the role of a Chief Data Officer Ambassador on the 13th of November, 2021

The partners and organizations involved with this program include the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Chief Data Officer and Information Quality (MIT CDOIQ) Ambassador program, the International Society of Chief Data Officers, and the CDO Magazine USA.
What was your reaction upon receiving this reward?
I was super excited when I received the email notifying me of my conferment as a Chief Data Officer Ambassador, this made me feel a sense of fulfillment in my career as an Information Professional.

Is there additional information that you want to provide about this position or your role as the Librarian/ Record Manager at the Nigeria Governors’ Forum?
The position of Chief Data Officer Ambassador gives me an opportunity to gain expertise and advance my career as an Information Professional.
My role as the Librarian/ Record Manager at the Nigeria Governors’ Forum entails library development, record keeping, and management of information which involves the collection, recording, organization, storage, preservation, automation, digitization, and proper dissemination of information resources of Nigeria Governors’ Forum in print and digital format and to ensure that staff and patrons of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum library have easy access to documents and publications in a timely fashion.
Aside from ensuring the smooth running of the NGF library and ensuring documents and publications are cataloged, classified, and uploaded to the NGF e-library and digital repository.
Other tasks I perform include reviewing publications and ensuring the copyright page is included, processing of International Standard Book Number, acquisition of publications for the NGF library, and participating in the Nigeria Governors’ Forum Secretariat programs and activities.
