HIGHLIGHTS: 2-Day Training for Journalists on Peace and Conflict Sensitive Reporting

Last week, the NGF hosted a 2-Day training for Journalists on Peace and Conflict Sensitive Reporting with Premium Times.

-A few nuggets from the training include understanding the different types of conflict and how journalists must manage the relationship with the government and the news that is being reported.

-The role of media and the humanitarian crisis: Non-sensitive reporting is unprofessional reporting and can lead to negative and tragic outcomes.

-Hate Speech and Fake News: We should look at ethnicity when reporting the news because highlighting some groups can incite violence and disharmony.

-Multimedia Verification: You must conduct fact-checking to make sure there is no doubt about the story.

You should also verify content to check whether it’s been manipulated.
