Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday inaugurated a seven-member Judicial Commission of Inquiry to ascertain the immediate and remote causes of the collapse of a seven-storey building over a week ago in Port Harcourt, the state's capital.
The Governor charged the Commission, which has 30 days to complete its assignment to ascertain whether appropriate tests, inspections and examinations were carried out by relevant persons and agencies before any approval was issued for the construction of the said seven-storey building.
Over 30 persons were rescued from the rubble, while nine persons including a pregnant woman lost their lives.
Governor Wike handed the Justice Adolphus Enebeli-led Commission of Inquiry 18 terms of reference.
Among them are to ascertain whether any extant regulations relating to approval of building plans or construction and development were compromised by any official of Rivers State Government or private person.
Governor Wike also charged the Justice Constance Green-led Commission of Inquiry to ascertain the value of properties, assets and ascertain how much the rivers state government has so far invested in the venture.
The two Judicial Commissions of Inquiry have 30 days to complete their assignments.
