It was a moment of grief, pains and tears in Adamawa state as heavy down pour resulted into serious flooding left 7 people mostly children dead, properties destroyed and over 20,000 houses affected.

The incidence which occurred at the weekend has affected so many areas within the state capital and other parts of the state which completely grounded human and vehicular movements within the state capital as flood take over major roads in the state for several hours without movement.

When Blueprint visited some of the affected areas in both Yola south and Yola North local governments, large crowd of people were seen running helter skelter to either evacuate their properties or adopting temporary measures to reduce the effect of the flood pending government intervention.

Most of those who spoke in the affected areas called for urgent government interventions to cusion the effect of the incidence especially at this critical moment of economic hardships.

One of the victims who gave his name as Abubakar sahabo said that apart from providing palliative measures there is need for government to as a matter of urgency come out with wholestic approach to tackle the challenge in the area.

Another victim by name Mrs. Christiana Iliya, in Jambutu area explained that this was not the situation in the past prior to the construction of new roads in the area and wonder why the situation continued to move from bad to worst since the construction of new roads in the area by bindows government.

In an interview with journalists in his office the Transition Committe Chairman of Yola south seen as the worst hit Hon. Adamu Ibrahim Wakili, described the situation as pathetic and worst ever experienced in the local government for the past 30 years.

He called for both state and federal government interventions noting that on their part they have visited all the affected areas to see things for themselves and will assist the victims in their little way.

According to him, 3 people lost their lives as a result of the flood within his local government and that estimately over 20,00 houses were affected and approximately properties worth 3 to 4bn were destroyed and wash away.

However, Gov. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri represented by his deputy chief. Seth crowther who also visited the affected areas commiserate with the people of the state over this incidence especially the victims and those who lost their lives.

He assured that the state government will provide relief materials to the affected victims and reach out to federal government for more assistance and work out a lasting solution to the problem.

Even as he warned against dumping of refuse in drainage, selling of ploys and building of houses on water ways which have all contributed to this incidence stressing that government will take drastic actions against violation of environmental laws.
