Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi has reflected on governance, saying that his administration has restored the state’s lost glory.
He described Ekiti as a fountain of knowledge, which cannot afford to return to its abysmal past.
Fayemi said:”Ekiti is now a land of honiur; a land of Omoluabi, not a land of stomach infrastructure.”
The governor spoke at the Independence Dance of the Island Club, Onikan, Lagos.
Earlier in the day, he also delivered a lecture at the Yoruba Tennis Club, Onikan, a stone throw from the Island Club.
He paired with his Osun State counterpart, Gboyega Oyetola, who was inducted as a member.
The Ekiti governor was accompanied by All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Ishola Fapounda and Ibukun Fakeye.
He painted a picture of a peaceful Ekitiland, urging investors to explore opportunities in the state.
The governor said Ekiti has been repositioned through purposeful leadership, prudent spending, promotion of inclusiveness, transparency and people-oriented programmes under his leadership.
Fayemi, who is the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF), reflected on 59 years of independence, saying that hope is not lost.
He cautioned agents of pessimism to desist and adorn the cap of positive thinking.
Noting that Nigeria has potentials for greatness, he said the people should cooperate with President Muhammadu Buhari in his bid to achieve his ‘Next Level’ agenda.
Fayemi disagreed with critics who have maintained that no significant change had occurred in Nigeria since independence.
He said infrastructural facilities have grown, referring to the leaps in the education, health, industrial and other sectors.
The governor, however, said there was the need for improvement to meet public expectation about further developments in these sectors.
Fayemi acknowledged that much effort was required to reposition the country for excellence in the interest of all.
Urging Nigerians to cooperate with the government to resolve the security challenge, the governor emphasised that security is the business of all stakeholders.
