Ondo SUBEB projects for delivery before resumption

The Chairperson, Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Princess Oladunni Odu, has said ongoing projects in primary schools across the state will be delivered before pupils resume for the 2018/2019 academic session next month. She spoke while monitoring the projects on site.

Princess Odu said: “We will get them completed because we have been paying contractors as at when due. I am sure they are speeding up the job.

“Some will be ready before resumption, while works still be ongoing after resumption and we will do our very best to ensure that the children are comfortable. We have new constructions going on. Other things we are doing include renovations, supply of computers, playground equipment to various schools and books”.

Princess Odu, a former commissioner for Education, said there were 20 projects in each local government – with about 60 percent of them completed.

She said the projects were costing the state N7.8 billon, thanking Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for releasing funds.

She urged parents and pupils to keep the schools in good condition, so that the buildings don’t get dilapidated, calling on the schools authorities not to give the schools out for other purposes.

One of the contractors on site Prince Jide Akintade said the state government had paid them upon writing payment evaluation, adding that, that was why they were able to achieve success within the short period of time.

Schools visited were: St James Primary School, Oda; L.A Primary School 2 Okebola, Akure; St Stephen Primary School, Ijomu Junction; St Peter Demonstration Primary School, Akure; SUBEB Model Okuta – Elerinla, Akure; Army Comprehensive Primary School; Muslim Primary School, Akure; and L.A Primary School Ilu Abo, Akure.
