30 States To Benefit From $250m World Bank Project

The national coordinator of the World Bank- assisted Community Social Development Project (CSDP), Dr. Abdulkarim Obaje, has stated that the project was implementing its additional finance of $250 million in the participating states including Niger.

He spoke at the weekend during a visit to the governor of Niger, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, that all the 30 participating states in the CSDP were going to benefit from the amount aimed at the poorest local government areas Obaje stated that his visit to the state was aimed at reviewing the performance of the project in the state in the last quarter with the view to finding a way to moving forward and achieving the target of the project.

The national coordinator reiterated that the agency’s priority was now to focus on the poorest local government areas in the state and that six local government areas in Niger State were to benefit from the intervention from 2018 to 2020.

He further stated that the state’s agency has so far contributed about N 775 million which was used to support 255 projects which cover roads, water and sanitation, provision of educational and healthcare facilities among others. In his remarks the governor of Niger State , Alhaji Abubakar Sani-Bello, has pledged that the project would continue in the state even after the expiration of the World Bank’s intervention because a law has been passed by the state assembly for the continuation of the CSDP.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to continuously support the World Bank – assisted project in the state in order to stimulate growth and reduce poverty in the state. He then assured the CSDP of the state government’s assistance in the areas of structures, funding and logistics in order to allow it carry out its activities in the growth and development of the state.
