Bothered by the threat posed by COVID-19 to the nation’s economy and resources available to the states, members of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) are strategizing how to address the challenges posed by the scourge. Part of the measures, is the decision to constitute a sub-committee, to be headed by the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai
“to comprehensively review the trend and advise state governments on the set of actions required to address challenges in the economy.”
The governors, at a meeting of the NGF in Abuja late on Wednesday, entertained a presentation by the Health Minister, Osagie Ehanire on the Federal Government’s efforts against the COVID-19 threat and resolved to collaborate with the government at the central.
They faulted calls by the Legislature and others on President Muhammadu Buhari to address the nation on Nigeria’s preparedness for the impact of COVID-19.
Chairman of the NGF and Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi made public the various resolutions of the forum.
On call on Buhari to address the nation, Fayemi said: “Every day, I notice that we receive an address. There is a COVID-19 Task Force that has been put together by the Federal Government. That task force addresses the country almost on daily basis.
“We have seen the Minister of Health. We have seen the Secretary to the Federation brief the nation. What the nation needs is information, regularly delivered, in order to keep the citizens well informed about the steps to take. It really should not matter, who is giving this conferences on a daily basis.”
The NGF also commiserated with the government and people of Lagos State over the recent explosion at Abule-Ado, in which lives and assets were lost.
